OBHBA 2024 Year in Review
First Quarter
At the January first quarter Membership meeting new officers were sworn in:
David Buchanan (Compass Edge Construction) was sworn in as the new OBHBA President for 2024-2025.
Jennifer Adams-Falconer (Excel Contracting) was sworn in as the new OBHBA Vice-President for 2024-2025.
Several HBA Members attended the NCHBA first quarter meeting in Raleigh and also attended the meeting for Region 2 HBA’s in Greenville.
Atlantic Elevators hosted Family Fun Bowling Night, which is always a lot of fun.
Second Quarter
OBHBA held their second Membership meeting at the Sea Ranch Resort. Larry Barker with Towne Insurance Agency discussed NCHBA’s new Health Insurance program for members. Larry Schwartzenberg from the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau spoke to the membership as well.
The Spring Golf Tournament was held at Sea Scape.
The Reverse Raffle for Build-PAC was held at the Village Beach Club.
The OBHBA membership helped raise $10,000 for the Beach Food Pantry.
Four scholarships were awarded to local high school students. Those awarded for their hard work were Savannah Lawton (First Flight High School), Kellen Morris (First Flight High School), Cecilia Morris (Manteo High School), and Anthony Zenteno-Luna (Cape Hatteras Secondary School).
The NCHBA Legislative Conference & second quarter meeting was held in Raleigh. The OBHBA was well represented and meet with several members of the Legislation on behalf of the Home Builders to promote the building industry.
Third Quarter
A new member lunch was held at the OBHBA office. The Board of Directors, Legislative Committee and Parade of Homes Committee continued to meet during the summer.
Fourth Quarter
On September 12th the first OBHBA Continuing Education class for NC Licensed General Contractors was held at the OBHBA office.
On October 9th the Pre-Parade Reception for all builders in the Parade and top tier Parade Sponsors was held and hosted by Cozy Kitchens.
October 10th-12th the 32nd Annual OBHBA Parade of Homes were held. Local Contractors participating were Compass Edge Construction, Excel Contracting, SimpleSide Construction, Maso Design Build, Croation Custom Homes, SAGA, Sandmark Custom Homes, Neal Contracting Co., T&B Homes, Smith Contracting, Homes by Eillu/Fine Finish Construction & Design and Renaissance Construction.
On October 13th the Trade Expo was held at Jennette’s Pier.
On October 25th the second OBHBA Continuing Education class for NC Licensed General Contractors was held at the OBHBA office.
The Fall Golf Tournament was held at The Pointe.
November 6th the last Continuing Education class was held for NC Licensed General Contractors was held at the OBHBA office.
The third Membership meeting and annual Oyster Roast was held at Cozy Kitchens on November 9th.
November 12th NCHBA held their 3rd quarter meeting and 21st Century Building Expo & Conference in Concord.
NCHBA’s fourth quarter meeting was held on December 10th at the Omni Park Grove Inn in Asheville. The night highlighted new HBA members taking office in the NCHBA. Of those sworn in were some of the Outer Banks HBA’s very own! The 2025 NCHBA Executive Committee members from the Outer Banks are:
Regional Vice-President for Region 2, Jake Overton (Overton Contracting)
NC Licensing Board, Trustee, Blair Meads (Reliant Construction)
NCBA Executive Officers Council Leadership, Phyllis Hobbs (OBHBA Executive Officer)
The Holiday/Christmas Party was held t at the Village Beach Club along with the Silent Auction for Scholarship.
