2025 First Quarter Newsletter and New Members Spotlight
April:
The Parade of Homes Committee continued to meet to discuss the 33rd annual Parade of Homes. The Legislative Committee continued to meet to discuss the local/state/national updates on the building industry. The Board of Directors met to discuss the business of the Association and upcoming events. Each Committee chair gave updates.
April 23rd the Spring Golf Tournament was held at Duck Woods, followed by a banquet where the Golf Team winners were announced, and drawings were given out for prizes.
A huge thank you to our Golf Chair David Whitehurst for all his hard work and to Kellogg Supply for supplying the Yeti trophies again. And thank you to all our sponsors!

Mason Dobie with a $1000 scholarship
Annie Coyle with a $1000 scholarship
Josselyn Brown, with a $1000 scholarship
Claire Meads with a four-year renewable scholarship ($1000/year)

May:

Reverse Raffle for Build-PAC
The Reverse Raffle for Build-PAC was held May 2nd at the Village Beach Club, with the grand prize of $5000.00. This was a Cinco de Mayo themed event, and the food was excellent!! Mixin Mike, the DJ did a fantastic job, and the cornhole tournament was quite an event. Adults and children had a great time.
Thank you to everyone that showed up to make this event so successful and to help with supporting those that support the Building Industry on the local and state levels.
This year the last two ticket holders decided to split the prize money.
NCHBA 2nd Quarter Meeting & Legislative Visits:
Several Members and BOD traveled to Raleigh for the NC Home Builders Association 2nd Quarter Meetings and Legislative Reception held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in Raleigh.
Those attending were: David Buchanan, Jennifer Adams, Mark Martin, Jay Overton, Blair Meads, Dave Stormont, Brian Newman, Jake Overton (Region 2 VP), Duke Geraghty, Government Affairs Director, and Phyllis Hobbs
At the Board of Directors meeting the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Housing Hall of Fame announced the inductees into the North Carolina Housing Hall of Fame for 2025. Mark Martin, Sandmark Custom Homes will be honored for his significant and lasting contributions to the home building industry in North Carolina and to the North Carolina Home Builders Association, as well as the Outer Banks Home Builders Association. The ceremony will take place December 11th at the NCHBA 4th quarter meeting.
Mark joins other Housing Hall of Fame Members; Duke Geraghty, Dave Stormont and Pogie Worsley.
The NCHBA Legislative Reception was held at The Merrimon-Wynne House in downtown Raleigh, and Legislative visits were May 7th. Meetings were held with Representative Keith Kidwell, Senator Bobby Hanig.
Electrical Class
There was a continuing education class for electricians May 9th at the OBHBA office. This class will be taught by: Donnie Guy Contracting Classes NEC 2023. Thank you to Joey Austin-Atlantic Elevators for getting this class together and sponsoring this class.
June:

2025 Membership Drive Contest
The contest is retroactive from January 1, 2025, and will end on October 30, 2025, and is open to all members of the OBHBA.
There are 2 drawings, each drawing has 3 prize levels.
DRAWING #1
For each new member that an existing member signs up to join the OBHBA they will be entered into drawing #1. The more members you sign-up the more chances to win.
DRAWING #2
All new members will be entered into drawing #2. Any new member that joins can then sponsor a new member giving them the opportunity to participate in both drawings.
Three entries will be pulled from both contests.
First ticket pulled wins $1,500.00
Second ticket pulled wins $1,000.00
Third ticket pulled wins Free Homebuilder Membership for one year.
The person sponsoring the most new members will receive $250.00
Drawing will be held at the Oyster Roast on November 7, 2025.
Parade of Homes

Silent Auction
September 16th, the third General Membership Meeting will be held at Swells'a Brewing Beer Company in Kill Devil Hills. This event being planned by the Scholarship Committee to raise money for the Silent Auction for Scholarship. There will be lots of good food-Oysters & Bar BQ!!
The Scholarship Committee is asking all members to please chip in and donate items for the auction. Minimum item $100.00, or bundle items such as gift certificates, booze, jewelry, etc., to make gift baskets for $50/each. The goal for the Silent Auction is $10,000!
